美國佛羅里達州的居民 Jason Colon 在配戴 AirPods 於健身房運動時，AirPods 突然出現故障並冒出白煙；根據 Colon 的說法，當下他立刻把 AirPods 放在器材上，並跑出去求助，當他回到 AirPods 旁邊時，耳機已經溶化毀壞了（如下圖）
Colon 跟當地媒體 Channel 8 News 電台表示：「我發現的時候它就已經這樣子了，我沒看到 AirPods 是怎麼起火的，我發現時就已經變成這樣了！」
在事件發生當下，健身房裡並沒有其他目擊者見到這起事件，在此之前，全世界也沒有碰過 AirPods 起火的事件。根據蘋果的發言人表示，蘋果已經開始調查這起事件，並與 Colon 接洽以了解更多情形。
