今天 Google Doodle 紀念的名人為 Har Gobind Khorana，他是一位美國分子生物學家，以解出了遺傳密碼聞名，並因此貢獻於 1968 年與 Robert Holley 及 Marshall Nirenberg 共同獲得諾貝爾生理學或醫學獎。Har Gobind Khorana 出生於印度，在 1948 年於英國利物浦大學獲得博士學位，當時他年僅 26 歲而已。

熱愛學術的 Har Gobind Khorana 生平

Khorana 是家中的幼子，還有三個哥哥與一個姐姐。他的父親是英國殖民政府的農業稅收人員，雖然擔任公職，但收入微薄，家境非常貧困。儘管生活並不富裕，但 Khorana 父母卻很清楚教棄的重要性，因此鼓勵孩子們努力學習，並盡一切所能來為 Khorana 提供最好的學習環境。Khorana 孩童時期的教育條件非常簡陋，只是由村裡的一位鄉村教師，在一個室外教室講課罷了。Khorana 就是在這種艱苦條件下完成了自己的初等教育。

隨後 Har Gobind Khorana 在木爾坦完成高中教育，並考取印度拉哈爾的旁遮普大學研讀化學，並以優異成績畢業。兩年後又獲得生物化學碩士學位，畢業後，有幸取得獎學金，並於英國利物浦大學攻讀博士學位，與教授 Roger J.S. Beer 進行研究。

除了 1968 年的諾貝爾獎以外，Har Gobind Khorana 還獲得當年度的拉斯克基礎醫學獎；MIT（麻省理工學院）生物系系主任 Chris Kaiser 評價他是一位：「傑出，並具有開創精神的科學家。」Har Gobind Khorana 同時也為美國康斯威星大學麥迪遜分校的任酶研究所共同所長，並在任教期間發現 RNA 編碼蛋白質合成機制。同時也是 MIT 名譽退休教授。

Har Gobind Khorana 於 2011 年 11 月 9 日在美國麻省康科特市逝世，享年 89 歲。
